Additions to Dungeon Creation
The latest update for Tomb Crawler brings exciting new features and improvements to enhance the roguelike MUD experience. A standout addition is the ability to toggle the Limited View of Map feature when creating dungeons. With this option enabled, unexplored areas of the dungeon are hidden from view until players venture into them, making exploration more challenging and rewarding. This feature adds a layer of strategy, especially in dark, unfamiliar environments. However, it is automatically disabled in well-lit, open areas like those found above ground.
In addition to the map visibility changes, the dungeon generation system has received further tweaks to improve randomness, creating even more diverse and unpredictable dungeon layouts. A few missing tile graphics were also designed and added to complete the visual experience, ensuring no gaps in the dungeon's appearance.
These improvements make Tomb Crawler even more immersive and challenging, adding new dimensions to dungeon crawling and exploration.

More Roguelike
Exciting updates to the Tomb Crawler engine: the game now supports dynamically-sized tiles that adjust based on level settings, creating a more immersive, focused view around your current location. As you explore, your visible area expands, adding an authentic roguelike experience inspired by classics like Hack. This makes tracking other MUD players within the dungeon a more challenging, strategic task. Above ground, however, this feature will be disabled for easier encounters. Let the adventure—and the hunt—begin!

More Tweaks
The journey continues with updates to Tomb Crawler! While the game isn’t available to the public just yet, testing yesterday brought new improvements. If a player exits improperly and goes idle for over 5 minutes, they will no longer appear in the “who” list or remain visible in the dungeon. Additionally, the game’s full-screen view got a tweak—now, the command prompt box can be dragged and repositioned, making for a smoother experience where every move counts. Thanks to these adjustments, gameplay is more streamlined and immersive. Stay tuned as we progress!

Development continues...
Vacation is behind us, and we’re diving back into development! The game engine has received significant upgrades, with tile properties becoming far more versatile. Gone are the limitations of two tiles—now, each tile can be set as passable or impassable, feature any solid color, and will soon support images in place of plain colors. While still at 10x10 pixels for now, tile sizes will expand in the future. Additionally, we streamlined the code by eliminating repetitive functions, optimizing both performance and readability. Exciting changes are ahead for the Tomb Crawler world!

Back on Track
We’ve made some significant improvements to the Tomb Crawler game engine! Parts of the engine were re-written to address the slowness players were experiencing when receiving updates about who was arriving or leaving their current location. This issue has been resolved, and you should now notice smooth, real-time updates without any performance degradation.
For Canadians, we hope you had an awesome Thanksgiving weekend! Please note, development will pause on October 22, 2024, as the team takes a well-deserved vacation, resuming on October 28, 2024. Stay tuned for more updates!

Some additions...
We've made significant improvements to the Tomb Crawler game engine, bringing us closer to the immersive experience we're aiming for. Navigation has been fine-tuned, and players will now receive a message via command prompt when another player (or players) arrives in the same location, giving that classic 1980s MUD (Multi-User Dungeon) feel. The difference? Our roguelike UI graphically displays player movements in real-time, all within your web browser.
Additionally, changes have been made to the game editor. When creating and saving a level, you can now clearly see where players will start on that specific map. In future updates, you'll also be able to customize tile colors to represent land, water, earth, dungeon tunnels, and rooms, making the environments even more dynamic and tailored.
Although Tomb Crawler is evolving rapidly, we’re still not ready for launch. Further functionality and level creation are needed to fully realize the game’s potential. Stay tuned for more updates!
